Bluetooth on Vintage amps.

I couldnt edit the title for some reason? Its supposed to say ''BlueTooth on Vintage Amps.'' Anyway, I bought a couple of No Name, cheap 4.2 version Bluetooth Transmitter/Receiver modules to see how they would go? Well, they turned out to be way above expectations, in fact, they are excellent, the only thing I could pick on them about was if I left the Transmitter from my PC charging on the PC USB it would pick up the hard drive noise when listening to music. The internal batteries are supposed to last 8 hours but according to someone they only last 4 hours? Well, 4 hours is plenty enough time for me. I plug the Receiver on the amplifier into the amps aux and run its battery charger to the power strip. The Transmitter is plugged into the headphone jack on the PC. When I first tried these I tested them out on YouTubes Audiophile Test videos and I was blown away at the quality. I have a similarish BT receiver/transmitter that has optical out also and yes it is remarkable how good it sounds.

I paid $15 each for mine but I see they've gone up to $20. It's crazy how they can carry such a high-grade signal? I keep thinking back to the 1970s imagining having the gear I've got right now. lol

I think that a blue tooth receiver is an excellent idea. It's just another signal source to the gear.

Yes, they work great but I'm starting to find that the ones I'm using are fiddly to use because of the immature software. I've ordered some BT transmit/receive USBs to see how they go?

Please keep us in the loop. You can probably steal +5 inside the amp to run the receiver as long as the amp is on once you find some you like.

I thought it wouldn't matter about the current because the device will only draw as much current as it needs? My computers USB 5v has very high current will that voltage source be cause for concern?

You're right, it will only draw as much as it needs, and I doubt it draws very much at all. A 78L05 would probably do as long as there isn't too much drop across it.

I'm fairly sure the BT module works off 3.3v so that's 1.7v headroom for any voltage drop. Doing this will be pretty straight forward I would think?

Well, if it has a USB jack, that's 5 VDC.

At the moment I'm using the USB-3 on my computer for charging the BT transmitter and a 5vDC 850ma output phone charger plugged into the power strip on the BT receiver end. Its all messy and complicated but the quality is crazy good in the end. lol

Well, a 3.3 VDC regulator is pretty easy. I don't see any problem with powering this thing inside your amp.

I'll get around to doing this when I've got the time, I have two Yamaha amps to fix in the meantime and a mobility scooter as well. Thanks for the advice Chris, it's appreciated. If it wasn't for this online help I wouldnt get very far at all?

When you have time, what model # of Yamaha amplifiers?

One is an RX-497 stereo and the other is an RX-V430 5.1, the RX-497 had a failed film capacitor in the turn-on circuit but I popped/fried the DTC-144ESA transistor when checking things out? so I'm waiting for a replacement in the mail. The other Yammy has the same kind of problem. No turn on or display? I also have a recently acquired Sansui G-4700 that I'm going to recap and clean up the boards. It still sounds great, just a bit boomy on the bass.

Okay, small receivers. Fun to work on and rewarding when you fix them.
Look for the AC detect cap on the RX-V430. It's often a low value electrolytic (like 1uF) in the power supply area, or near the CPU.

Oh good stuff, thanks for that Chris. I'll check it out? A guy I know works for a roadside cleanup company, he finds lots of amplifiers for me to play with.
