Can you tell vinyl rip from digital download? listening test

Can you hear a difference between the vinyl rip and the digital sample download file of the same recording?

Pity about the sound quality of the vocal in particular, I hear the differences clearly and voted Yes without ABX result, I can describe the differences if asked.

Yes I can. Ripped cd`s have no rumble or scratches.Thats why I converted to digital source my last tt was Linn Lp12 vallhala, ittok arm and trak cart.

So it goes, such are recordings nowadays. Please note I said not a word about sound quality.

Now the test files:
- one of them I made as a vinyl rip from this record myself
- the second one is the file issued by the producer that you may download if you buy the record. It is not a vinyl rip which you may easily find by file analysis at low frequencies - there is no vinyl surface noise added, but it has another issue at the high frequencies.

So, we have 2 very different files that can be seen in file analysis. It should be very easy then to get a positive ABX result, especially for those who can hear SOTA DAC differences, color of interconnect wires, resistor brands, capacitor brands.

I just did it without paying attention to which is which.......I prefer file 2 if had to choose which one to listen to.
It seems fuller/richer like a blues recording should.

Number one was sharper/more sterile to me.

I a/b’d them several times over apple airplay directly and at my regular listening volume

Gonna do a averaged fr to see if there’s measureable differences at lp

Edit....track 2 shows about 4db gain @ 50-70hz but other than that within 1-2db....93db avg @ lp

I've only just spotted this thread... and I found this one of Pavel's easier tests

They do sound quite different to me, and as mountainbob says, one is much fuller sounding.

Neither of them can be correctly heard,especially the analog one seeing we are listening digitally....

But I also prefer the 2nd file mountainman bob,it sounds more level and like an analogue recording would be..... (W/o the extra un-natural bass,etc) nut I cant really tell seeing im listening digitally.....


Whats the right answers on the files?? (Would be interesting to know)

I thought it was easier than I expected to pick a favorite between the two files. Using the Lossless Audio Checker, which can be downloaded for free here
