I think there are several ways to refresh the flash periodically.

Not the microcontrollers, fpgas and flash used in SSD drives to map sectors

Yes all inclusive of controllers, fpga and the memory.
Like I said several ways to do it.
Rotating media too but probably going forward with only flash.

Saw 256Gb SD for under $50 today.
Bout six years ago I did a low power project that had a SD with Fat file system, TI low power processor etc. (mIcrochip eclipsed TI with the xlp family so using even that technology 25 year is possible.
Google search today too shows more advances in long term power thanks to the utility meter industry.
I would write a spec but basically wake up every few months and do a disk check then go back to sleep.
40 year operation on the horizon now.
Here is just one link.

Update here:
Dot not use glycerin.
For some reason, impurities maybe causes the thumb drive to fail.
I'm trying some 1tb micro SD cards.
Flash looks like price is tanking again.
I ordered a two pack of 1tb for $25.
Also trying some micro containers.

I can archive both m4a and mp3 with these cards.

Hi,
just come accross your post

you could take a leaf out of the movie bussiness' book and use LTO (Linear Tape-Open) the cartridges are not that expensive, store quite a lot (uowards of 100Gb per cartridge), use an open format and very widely used.

Worth looking at.

I think the tape too bulky for burial.

The uSD 1tb so for looking good. I'm loading up two of them.
The sustained write speed is 7-8 MB/sec.
Super cheap too, low enough to abandon in place.

Good luck with your archiving.

1TB SD cards at that price are fakes. At first you should read back 1TB of stored data before trusting them.

I've had good results with semifakes.
Sometimes simply overruns or produced during a 'fourth shift.
But the die is acting like real thing.
