Parallel to Ethernet network cable thingy

Hi,

I want to use a printer port with “8 outputs and ~4 inputs” to be wired up onto my Ethernet cable, no hardware, only software would be needed I think, I have a parallel linking cable and the speed is 4Mbps linking speed, so if that connection is 4Mbps, then its ok for me, it’s a old pc.

Not possible. Your best bet is to get a used card that adds USB to an old PC and then a used USB/Ethernet bridge. These things are probably in the <$10 range these days.

That’s not impossible, it might be stupid tho, I think if you just have the right drivers it will work, but its cool, its probably better to get a Ethernet card, instead of going the DIY path

Here's an article for starters. As far as I know the Realtek ethernet controller or equivalent is a requirement ie. you cannot gererate the required (electrical) signals from a parallel port.

if your talking about LPT to LPT cable linking
I already have a homemade one, speed is 4mbps
