What to build to test Laptop/TV psu?

Can I build a simple tester to see what a TV external PSU measures under load?


I was thinking a PSU input socket attached to some hair dryer fillament? But then, what will the PSU power up? So I can take a reading.

Whatever suits the voltage & current.

Use a low frequency current probe, clamped around (only) one of the power cord wires.
Or a DVM on current range, in series with one of the power cord wires.
Run the TV as normal. Gravity: Analog AC Current Sensor-DFRobot

I have an element from an old fan heater I use as a load. just use alligator clips along the wire to get the load R correct.

Bulbs are OK except that they can (they do) appear as a very low resistance load when cold and this can cause some PSU's to react badly or trip thinking there is a shorted load.

A pure resistive load is best... and old element wire is great for low voltage testing.
