I am interested in trying some different 12ax7 and 12au7. Do the two have the same amount of influence on the sound, or is one more pronounced than the other? And do they have the same overall effect, or do they change different aspects of the sound? Are there certain strategies for selection, for example a more neutral 12au7 combined with a more colored 12ax7?
I am playing a vintage Eico-Mullard 12ax7 with RCA 12au7(A). Would having all Mullards be overkill?
