Lundahl for TU-8200

It Verks!

Thank you Victor!

I just put in Lundahls and Mundorfs. I haven't had had a lot of time to audition with the changes but my first impression is very positive. The tonal balance is good. I'm not sure why but it sounds more powerful.

Install was easy. Line the transformer leads up with the pcb. I rubber banded it for soldering to prevent the pcb from vibrating in the future. Plug it in and let 'er rip!

Oops. I missed the earlier post about thick solder on the pads. Will do. I didn't request a mounting bracket. I'm using 3M tape

I've been listening with Buchardt S300s, TAD 6L6s and RCA clear tops. Pentode mode.

Since I changed the caps and OPTs at the same time I can't for sure say what impact each has. It sounds outstanding now. Before the upgrades I thought it sounded amazing but a little light on power. I loved how all the delicate little details came through. Now those details are even more nuanced and perfecter. I did not expect the upgrades to add control to the bass notes. They did. It's truly an improvement across the board as far as I can hear

I received my transformers from Victor before Christmas and finished my new TU-8200R build a few days ago. I didn’t try the standard transformers - I went straight to the Lundahls.

I’m very happy with the amp. Even though the Lundahls are mounted close to the power transformer (and one is also close to the mains power connection) there is very little hum - less than any of my other tube amps. I need to put my ear very close to my 94dB+ econowaves to hear anything. I’m using Ultralinear mode and only the lower impedance secondaries. I definitely agree that the small details are resolved very clearly. I can’t remember the name of the track (something from XX br The XX) but the song starts with a xylophone(?) before guitar and bass are added - this thing that stood out was that the quieter xylophone remained sharply resolved and in focus even when the grittier/louder guitar and bass were added. It’s was very cool.

Victor was extremely helpful. After I’d sent payment he very quickly arranged shipping to the UK, and the delivery was fast. He was also very quick to respond to emails/questions. Many thanks Victor!

Hi Victor, sorry if I gave the wrong impression - the amplifier is extremely quiet, there is no noticeable hum/noise. If I put my ear directly in front of an Eminence 3012LF driver (1-2” from the cone) I can hear the smallest trace of hum, but it’s not audible from 12” or more even in my quiet room. The tiny amount of hum is less than my Monarchy SM—70 Pro and about the same as my Aleph J (which has a lot of capacitance and CLC PSU). The TU-8200R and Lundahls are performing brilliantly :)
