Yes but they can explain the sonic characteristics to some extent and also indicate some potential problems that do not come out in short-medium term listening.
Nothing against Stereophile, Herb has a very good musical taste, but spending a few thousand dollars based on someone else's emotional feelings in a review is a bit risky, this has been proven a few times.
