Remote 23-steps volume control (need to add TVC or resistors), optional 6 pairs input

We want remote control for our Django TVC preamp but we don't want to go back to step motor which is noisy and needs manual adjustment once it stops in the wrong position. Relay is a good alternative but 29 decent relays would cost more than 100USD.

Recently we visited a Chinese manufacturer of remote controlled plane and military parts. They have stock of good relays and willing to produce in small quantity for us. They have access to audio grade PCB and experience in PCB design. Will all these, we aim to have a clean sounding remote controlled switches kit perfect for our Django.

The kit will be composed of:
1pc 100x185mm make-before-break 23-selections board
1pc 45x80mm break-before-make 6-selections board
1pc 33x90mm display and control board
1pc remote control
optional : 1pc 40mm knob

This kit can also be used for building resistor volume control.

The first prototype will be done in early December, 2014.


How much will it cost?

This kit costs more than other resistors volume control because this kit uses a lot more relays for TVC. Final cost is not yet confirmed but below is my estimation:

Volume control board + display and control board + remote control : about $219
Volume control board + display and control board + remote control + channel control board : about $289


Operation:

Remote control : 2 buttons for volume control and 2 buttons for channel control

Front panel control : Press the knob to change channel or turn the knob to adjust volume.


Installation:

Drill one 15mm hole for a number display and one 5mm hole for IR receiver (optional: one 8mm hole for switch shaft for manual selection)

First attempt to put everything in a small chassis

We put 1 pair XLR and 3 pairs RCA for input, and 1 pair XLR and 1 pair RCA for output. There is a 6dB siwthc and a ground switch.

First design was to mount the PCB on the bottom plate and mount the TVC on the top plate. But the 20pin cable is too deep and XLR is long, we cannot close the chassis. We try an inverted mounting method, everything fit. Need to get taller feet.
