Firewire or USB device for tapping I2s

I'm thinking into buying an external soundcard to have a 'clean' I2s source for a DAC of my choice:

USB: M-Audio transit, people have used it to tap i2s - price around USD80. Needs a power mod to feed it from an external supply instead of the USB 5V.

Uses TAS1020A, then i2S to a cheap DAC, should be real easy to build a clean supply/add a low jitter 6mHz clock...

Firewire: Behringer FCA202, external power, firewire interface. More prone to changes I'd say, but I haven't heard of anyone using it for this purpose. What does it have inside?

What would be the pro/cons of using either?
