HI

I interested in buying or building a USB-to-SPDIF converter

this idea came to me after reading an article on VT52 website.
The guy use his PC as a transport for his DAC. I didn`t use the cdrom but the hard disk...

For the hole story, go on
-www.vt52.com
-click on "update"
-then, click on "USB-Audio through my PC"

Do anyone have an idea?

Thanks

Not really DIY but...

I'm using a Creative labs MP3+ as USB to TOSLink (Optical S/PDIF) adapter.
I've ripped my CD collection and feed the digital data straight into my Onkyo receiver. I'm very satisified with the sound.

The cool thing with MP3+ is a little switch which can be put into 'Digital only' mode. In this mode, the module doesn't touch the data, it only buffers it and output it on the TOSLink output.
I have a couple of DTS encoded wavefiles. I played one of them and my Onkyo decoded the DTS and I had a surround live performance with Eric Clapton in my speakers. Enough proof for me that the data is unaltered.
