While I don't take any single position on old school R2R versus sigma-delta modulation (SDM), R2R is not going to win any measured performance contests versus even pedestrian SDM implementations, let alone one near the limits of current performance. Proponents of old school R2R will tell you that, for them, R2R is all about subjective performance, not objective.
