The Hitachi HOP1200 is a common laser used in numerous cd and some sacd players. From what I have read the different variants, the R, S, and W are all essentially identical. The lasers are available from numerous vendors. I have also read that quality control is likely not the best and these lasers can be short lived or just plain DOA.
I now have a sacd player that uses the HOP1200 laser. I would like to get a stock of replacement lasers while they are still available.
What are the best places to buy these from? Where is one more likely to get a good laser than a bad one? Are there vendors to avoid? Are there vendors who can be recommended?
Oh, and does it matter if you get the full mechanism or just the laser?
