Shigaclone MKII Black - The builders Thread

If 1st solution do not work for you, I'll go for the second one. This mean you put L1 back and remake the trace you cut after AD151.

Regards,
Tibi

Either way if I use solution 2 or 3 I have to repair the trace that was cut, don't I? Could be a pain but what the h-ck, if I can repair the laser unit with single strands of copper cable then I should be able to fix this also. Thank you in advance, I'm already to it.

My Shiga is running with lc supplies
For 4 reflektor D , and for the original psu. Maybe I'll try the new Salas BIb for the 8 V later and another clock
Mechanics placed on a woodblock, would like to get some inputs on the best way to mount it.
And soundwise : Excellent!!!

mission accomplished

Hello guys. Here's my version of Shiga MkII Black which I have finished today.
I used this case 田雨音響—CDM3、CDM4 轉盤機箱 that I brought from China where I was on a tour with my orchestra.
The case is spacious and solid with antishock table for cd mech, perfect for the full D-Reflektorized version.
Looks very good and sounds great.
Greetings

Hello all.

I bought this kit some years ago.

However, I have not succeeded to build it.

Actually, when I turn on,

the CD spins and laser pickup goes to start position.

Moreover, laser lens moves up and down for several seconds.

But, I can not read TOC at all.

Coul you check my pcb, please?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello bbangkab,

Pictures are very poor quality. It is hard for me to diagnose something when details are blurred.
Have you removed solder protection bulb from CD mechanic.
Have you mounted the mechanic on something ? It will not work as in picture.

Tibi

Hi,
I am going to make a new case for my Shiga MKII. I am very happy with it. It uses the SF-P101N-16 P modded mechanic. But I would like to know if the change of the C8 cap by a Mundorf EVO Silver-Gold OIL 450VDC 0.10µF (I have one of this) would be a significant upgrade for my setup. I don't want to change anything. So if C8 upgrade only is a good point: perfect, else I leave as is.

Lohk,

LC78601 do not have i2s output. The single option is to use an s/pdif to i2s converter like WM8804.
On other hand I have seen bad i2s as well. Using i2s do not guaranty superior performance.
I personally use Shiga MKII high grade level3 with a Soekris r-2r dac trough s/pdif and it sound by far better than a MacBook Pro + Amanero via i2s to same Soekris dac.

Tibi

After two years I've finally completed my build. While I've had it playing for nearly a year now, it's great to have the enclosure finished too. Thanks for your help in the beginning stages, Tibi.

Remote control is by an Apple remote with the IR signals decoded by an Arduino Nano. The Arduino outputs are linked to the button PCB through optocouplers.

Thank you!

It turned out much tighter than I expected, especially around the display and buttons. The mech is held up by bolts through the base. You can just see the arduino under the mech, along with the perfboard I used for the additional circuitry.

I used my 3D printer to make mounting frames for each PCB, that were then glued to the aluminium. As for the aluminium, I had the front made by Front Panel Express, the lid done at my local laser cutting business, and the others cut by hand. The 3D printer also came in handy for the brackets to hold it all together.

Bonus out of focus image of my recently completed Bijou headphone amp. It's in an identically sized enclosure to the Shiga, so they look great side by side (if I say so myself).
