Help needed please re Fatman 11 usb problem and ipod dock problem

In my quest to get music every where I have bought a second hand Fatman 11 amp and ipod dock. The "gent" that i naively purchased it from is a complete waste of space!
Two problems, no 1 the usb in the amp does not work, wher you insert the usb is a tiny red light that does not come on
No 2 - the ipod player will only play one channel, i have changed speaker leads around, cleaned the connector mount, have borrowed a Fatman ipod dock and my ipod works perfectly on that

Any pointers would be great, i am getting "tut tut" from my wife now as well as being annoyed about the purchase

Please help - going to the pub
