I started getting distorted sound on my Oppo DV-981HD which I solved by re-seating the ribbon connector between the sound board and the rear connector board. I remember solving a purring motor problem on the Toshiba SD-3980 way back doing the same. These ribbon connectors are problematic. The type I'm referring to is the flat ribbon, usually with a reinforcing plastic strip that can be used to pull it out of the female slotted connector on the pcb. The ribbon contacts are accessible and can be cleaned if desired, but how to clean the slot connector? Flooding will surely leave something behind. Is it best to just leave alone?

If it's the sort of connector I'm thinking of I use a piece of thin paper/card soaked in iso to clean the socket.
This is close to being a good solution, but the material would need to not leave lint or particles behind. For now, just reseating several times seems to have worked.
