I am in doubt
On the front panel of this CDP is proudly stated: 20-bit!
Looking inside is easy to find two PCM64s which are exactly the light version (no internal ref voltage) of an 18-bit BB multibit DAC.
As I'm offered to buy this unit to mod it - namely to replace the PCM64s with pair of PCM63s K-grade I'm really in doubt about this two questions:
- Who does not say the truth - Denon or BB (the last I don't really suspect misleading)
- Is it worth to buy such an old machine to mod it - making it a real 20-bit meaning spending money (price for unit is about 165EUR). How reliable I could expect the laser to be? At least the KSS151a is an expensive pleasure but do they really get tired or last longer than the motors for example?
