4 SPDIF (Optical+Coaxial) to I2S Modules - Is One of Them More Preferable?

Hi All


I would like to buy an SPDIF to I2S Module.

I found 4 different modules,
they all cost around 14$,
and the difference between them is the chip they are based on.

The 4 chips are:
- DIR9001
- WM8805
- CS8412
- AK4113


Is any one of them more preferable than the others?

Compared the DIR9001 vs 8412 and did not like the DIR at all. Must have been more than 10 yrs back.

How was the difference expressed?

Note that the DIR9001 module has 2 jumpers (FMT0, FMT1) for settings,
something that none of the other 3 have..

In terms of Jitter and data recovery WM8805 is the best

WM or AK, if you want up to 192kHz, also DIR, if 96 is enough.
Not CS in any case....

Now this is interesting.
In 90% of the devices that have SPDIF Input, we see CS#### receiver chips being used - they are the most commonly used,
and you say to avoid them?
Why is that?

CS84xx are the ancient parts, they were very popular 25-30 years ago, because there were no other options.

CS84xx have MCLK Jutter ~200ps, the newer receivers have ~50ps jitter.

If you will use ASRC or FIFO-buffer for jitter cancellation, the type of spdif receivers not important.
