Hi
I got 2 Yamaha HS7 monitors, and I would like to connect my DAC to them.
My DAC outputs 2RCA,
and the HS7 monitors have these 2 options for input:
As can be seen,
the first option is XLR,
and the second is 1/4".
When checking HS7's manual, I see that both these inputs are Balanced:
Since my DAC outputs 2RCA, then we can know it is not balanced.
My question:
What is the correct way to connect my DAC to the monitors?
Will the correct way be a cable that is 2x RCA to 2x 1/4" Mono?
Like this:
My small worry, is that the 1/4" input in the HS7 is defined as "Balanced TRS",
from the "TRS" part we understand that the socket has 3 contacts inside,
and I will be connecting a plug that has only 2 contacts (and obviously not balanced..),
is that the right way to connect to the HS7, assuiming I do not wish to change my DAC?
Thank you

Having balanced inputs is an advantage, no danger of ground loops with the grounded amps in the speakers. It's a good design.
I would connect the source with unbalanced -> balanced connection using a balanced cable with shield connected at source side only - look at the picture Adding an Amp into Thin-Client PC .

Hi phofman
Thank you, it looks cool, I will get into it as a lter stage,
I currently need a faster solution.
Is the cable I mentioned relevant, or will this be a wrong way to connect, and might cause a problem?
My biggest worry is that the 1/4" socket internally has 3 contacts,
and by inserting a mono plug into it (that has 2 contacts) it means that 2 out of the 3 contacts inside the socket, will be shorted..

Nice, thank you.It will work OK.
The cold line of balanced input will be connected to ground with the long sleeve (no separate middle ring - Tip Ring Sleeve).
BTW, can we say n general that all monitors with a Balanced 1/4" TRS input support connecting a 1/4" Mono (Unbalanced) plug, and will work OK with it?
