HD Audio over USB extender

Is anyone using a USB extender (over cat 6) to an XMOS or similar device to play high bitrate audio? I primarily want to overcome iTunes' 16/44 streaming limitation, but I also like the idea of being able to play any arbitrary audio over the connection since it would appear as a local device.

I am not finding much discussion about it here or elsewhere, and the threads are always dated and inconclusive.

i want to have 1 but not there yet
to me the main advantage will be the elimination of common gnd (i assume there are isolation transformers inside the tx/rx)
the biggest problem is extenders supporting USB 2.0 high-speed are extremely rare and not so cheap, most if not all only up to USB 2.0 full-speed which might not work with your device
