Amazing and cheap board The original board shows the third harmonic of the 1kHz 0dB at around -87dB. After the buffer was replaced with this one simple schematic with the +/-15V supply :

Also the the ES9018K2M runs from the E-MUs crystal oscillator 22.579Mhz.

I know it was posted back in 2017 but I was wondering about the schematic. Specifically one capacitor is 220pF and the other is 680pF. I just wanted to verify that those are the correct values and that the two capacitors are a different value.

The schematic you have there is Victor's first version. There a is revised version that is probably preferable. Doubt they are as good as the standard 3-opamp version though even though an FFT may look good.

Thank you. I might try a couple different output circuits.

The E-MU 1820 has balanced +4dBu inputs so I might also try a balanced output version to see how it measures. However all of my DIY power amplifiers do not have balanced inputs.

If balanced outputs are used then I would suggest to add more filtering to the balanced outputs as ESS now does for their evaluation boards. That might take one more dual opamp per channel.

Also, one might note that Victor's two opamp output stage uses less than usually recommended filtering.

Some ESS datasheets and evaluation board packages are now available for public download. So far as I know the only ESS parts still under NDA are the latest ADC and DAC chips. Parts up to and including ES9038PRO are now documented in the public domain. Also, all documents on the ESS downloads page at: Downloads – ESS Technology, Inc. ...were released to the public years ago. Once released they are no longer trade secrets nor confidential.

I have receive the suptronics x4000k diy kit and installed last night. Please forget my poor English....

This kit include:

1) Metal Box. It is a tiny box and almost like 3 cigarette box.

2) DAC Board. Use ES9018K2M and can connect raspberry pi by I2S or HDMI I2S. I think the I2S of HDMI is much better than the ones of raspberry pi.

3) 2.5 HD Board. That board use USB port.

4) Power Supple. DC 5V 4A adapter for all kit.

5) Tools. A screwdriver & a tweezers.

That is a useful kit. I have try ES9023/PCM5102/PCM5122, and I do not like the sound. I think that is due to the quality of pi's I2S. Then I try to use to CS8421 with PCM1794 and feel better.

That kit is specially in I2S of HDMI. I am trying it....

Where to buy? Can you tell me?

why add a resistor ?

You will not have zero DC voltage at the output without this resistor.

LME49720 is probably not ideal for I/V because of its RF sensitivity. OPA1612 might work okay.

I am using OPA1656 at this time. Output series resistor can be reduced to 50 ohm.
