Maybe need to use 2 MCU to control 2 DAC
The AK4490 as a 2 pin CAD0 and CAD1 as sub adress so you could build a 4 DAC board controled only with one MCU, I was also thinking about for a balanced version with this config because the DAC as also an inverting function in configuration register

Anybody got any Arduino code for the AK4490 chip? I don't really want to start from scratch if I can help it. Want to run it in dual mono, adjust volume, select format and select filter.

Not many people building this DAC so I thought I would share my experience. I have separate super regulated power supplies for the Analogue 5V and the analogue 3.3V. Separating out the Digital 3.3V was not a huge subjective difference in SQ. However running the Analogue voltage at 6.8V was miles better. More clarity and density to the sound.
I am currently using the same filter/ buffer circuit as the evaluation board with different resistor and capacitor values. In terms of op amps I have tried various including LM49990, LM47910, AD4489 etc The cleanest sounding is LM4990. However the one that I am using is a current feedback Plano - LM49713. The high output current and slew rate makes a big difference. Best clarity and bass response too! I would say that this chip is equal to or better than the Sabre ES9018Dual Mono DAC AK4490/AK4497

Forgot to mention that I am running balanced out and the next step is dual mono if I can get some code sorted.
The only issue I have is extremely loud clicks at the start of music and whilst navigating apps on my Nvidia Shield TV. I think it might be something to do with the USB initialising. Anybody know whether these can be soft muted in serial control automatically?

Do you use akm4490 in software mode or hardware mode ?

At the moment, it's in hardware mode. I need to write some Arduino code to get it running in software mode and go dual mono.

Hi, was this increase from 5V to 6.8V with the same regulator? I'm currently running my AK4495 with a 5V PH shunt reg, and contemplating giving it another couple of volts. Ta.

Yes I am using the same regulator. The absolute maximum rating is 7.5V which must not be exceeded even under transient conditions otherwise you risk killing the DAC. AKM do not recommend running it higher than 7.2V
