It's a discrete R2R ladder dac, there is at least one similar project going on here at the moment. Building a discrete 16 bit (or more) dac that remains monotonic across its entire dynamic range strikes me as very difficult.

It could be an interesting experiment..

I built a similar DAC and it worked. But it is not more than an interesting experiment. It can't be realized at the required accuracy with real life components.
