As Ryssen says, it appears as if a group buy is being put together and if so what would the pricing be like? Or are we just seeing how many names we can get together first of all?

A little bit of both worlds :) As part's costs are directly dependent on quantity I would like to know how many boards can be made so I could deliver a good price for them. My target is 50+ and I have a strong feeling that it will not be enough. As m_massimo told me through PM, all of you guys that are in this list will automatically get the lower price I can deliver (after all, this is the main goal of it!). Moreover, I want to say that this list is NOT forcing anyone to buy this new PCB! If the price of it could be too expensive from some reasons then you are free to drop it and I'll respect the decision.

Good Stuff.

When you say latest PCB, I assume you are meaning the latest version of what would be the waveIO module. I did attempt to determine exactly what the GB was for by looking backwards through the thread, as it seemed the module in question was something that might not be what's posted at the start of this thread, but it was a little unclear.

If this is for that which I have assumed it to be, then you can also count me in too :)

Now, regarding the updates: besides DFU (for which I have to upload some files in the driver's package and is done) I want to build a daughter card to improve the SQ by retiming the I2S signals while adding isolation between the outputs and WaveIO board itself. This new card is designed explicitly for actual WaveIOs as the revision will not need it. I'm now in schematic stage, searching for parts that offers a fair balance between quality and performance. Moreover, to keep costs down this board will be build in Q's over 50 pcs. or more. If there's any interest in it among actual WaveIO owners please contact me through PMs.

5th Element, this is the first post from Lucian on the new daughter card, it is what the list is for, registering interest rather than initiating a GB as such. There was some subsequent discussions on power supplies and output clock frequencies that might be required to get the most from each type of dac that might be used with this. My understanding is that it is a design specific to the waveio board (subject of this thread) to extend the features with an addon board. As the design isn't complete it is obviously challenging for Lucian to advise a price.

Ah, I see, so this is an addon for current owners of the waveIO, not a group buy for some new version of the waveIO itself. I did wonder this considering the name daughter card was thrown about, but I figured people might be referring to the waveIO as the daughter to the PC or to the DAC itself or something, so thank you for the clarification :)

Hi Lucian,

I just finished a simple diy DAC with USB input to SPDIF converter last week. The DAC is based on AK4396 and the USB converter is based on TE7022. I've got both as fully assembled kit from Ebay. The whole setup is just for me to dip my toe into music server world.

The setup can be seen in:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digi...kit-cs8416-ak4393-5532-a-210.html#post3175856

When I heard the setup the first time, right away I noticed that everything was not right. In fact I dare to say it sounded bad. Very bad actually.

High, mid (i.e. vocals) and low were just all over the place. No resolution, no soundstage, and I just had to switch it off and used the motherboard soundcard temporarily.

Then I thought maybe it was just one of those days where I wasn't really in the mood. Or perhaps the components were not burn in yet.

But after a couple of days of listening, I came to the same conclusion.

I wasn't happy at all. I almost gave up and thought maybe it's just better buy a complete DAC and be done with it.

Then I received you WaveIO module a couple days ago. I didn't have time to try it out right away until this afternoon. I replaced the TE7022 with your WaveIO and connect to the same DAC through isolated spdif port.

Wow.... I was very surprised. The difference is like day and night. Everything was sounded just right. Not the best sound that I want to achieve yet (i.e. refer to the DAC module), but it is definitely very promising now.

The XMOS module cast away my doubt about going forward with this DIY journey.

I don't think I have to explain it further, but it is definitely a very good experience for me.

Thanks Lucian for your fabulous module. I'm looking forward to your next creation.

Cheers from the Great White North.

I am very happy to see there is an hardware addon to retiming the I2S signals for a xmos board finally! After finding in the oscilloscope the unsynchronized/jitter I2S signal from the official xmos EVM, I am very disappointed. Most review told xmos is good but with an unsynchronized/jitter I2S signal, I should know human ear is subjective

I believe Lucian's WaveIO is a tangible improvement over the xmos EVM already, before adding the daughter card ;)
