To number the tube pins, look at the bottom of the tube socket.
Find the gap, or a notch, which is between pin 1 and the last pin.
The pin just clockwise of the gap or notch is pin 1.
The numbering increases clockwise (again, as seen from the bottom).
Some odd tubes are a little different (see the bottom views in the figure).
Be sure to use wire rated at the B+ voltage or higher.

Note that ICs are numbered the same way: CCW as viewed from the top,
and CW as viewed from the bottom. They also have a notch or other indicator mark.
