How to fix front panel door on HK AVR 435

How to fix front panel door on HK AVR 435 (solved)

1) I have a used but fully functioning HK AVR 435 home theater receiver. Works well but the bottom panel door does not close, parts are plastic but am wondering if there maybe a way to repair (diy of course). Thin magnet glued to the door and panel work?, velcro likely will leave a gap.

2) On the same receiver volume knob silver color has several spots that has peeled off. where can I expect to find a touch up paint that may work?, home depot or car parts store?

You may want to open up the front panel, I had the 335 and that panel stays up with a kind of spring/friction clip. It may have fallen and its still inside the unit.
If you have lost it, you might be able to fab up something out of double-over thin metal.

As far as matching the color, you are unlikely to get a match. I would suggest you find something close and repaint the entire knob, then a slight color mismatch will be less noticeable to the average person.

not sure whether I can open the front panel but will take the cover off and see...

what is double-ver thin metal??

thank you.

The flap is generally a clip shape in plastic, forming the moving part of the hinge, a round part is the fixed part.
Gently take if as far off the body as you can, and pry it off.
Gently, as it is aged plastic, and unobtanium.
Very thin metal can be found in transformer laminations, 0.3 mm onwards.
Hacksaw blades (10 inch regular hand frame ) are 0.64 mm on the flat side, away from the teeth.
