Class D Amp Photo Gallery

Icepower1200as2 just mounted in the housing..

I am still wondering whether to do any heat sink for this module .. but 60C never exceeds on the housing.

Hi LubMich:

Nice build! Are you planning on adding another module next to the first module (running 4 channels)? If so, I would definitely add some heatsinking, but you may want to even if running the single module.

This is an internal shot of mine, that was professionally built by Rouge Audio Design/Rome, IT. As you can see, there is a perforated steel false bottom that acts as a heatsink, as well as holes in the bottom and top of the case that are aligned over the module that allow convective cooling. Even with this, the amp is warm (but not hot) during operation.

As an fyi, also, when I corresponded with the builder, he mentioned that he intentionally kept all of the wiring off the bottom plate, due to the heat of the plate. It looks like your binding post wiring might be lying on the bottom of the case.

I'm really happy with mine, and I hope you are too!

Regards,
limits

Cool.
What power are you planning?
Just finished a small module with just 2 x IRFP4227 and ZXGD3003E6 buffers (4R7 gate resistors) , and DT=75nS, running +-50 volts into 2 ohm in a short test with no heat sink at all ... my "coolest yet" ... coil T106-2 with Ø1mm @ 22 uH.
Well they run off a 1.2kw 45v ac toroid, 80000uf pr channel, I don't need all that power but had alot of fun building them, do you build to reach some goal? A planned setup?

I bought an Earthquake DBXI-15D + SLAPS15, and have put them in a 70l box.
The 400 W is not enough at all ..... I will need around 2kW to get it to max out ;)
Will try with a +-70V supply first. I will need a bigger coil for more than 1kW ...
That is one hefty bass project you are building, yes definitely heavier gauge coil and sufficient cooling, all those watts into almost short circuit.
For my totempole drivers I modified a 40 by 40 computer heatsink, I like my electronics running cool, that means long life span

First DIY based on TPA3251

Toroidal 24VAC made in Poland 300W
Unregulated PSU audiophile grade (4x 10000µF 50V, Nover caps)
O2 free Wires made in Germany
Micro ITX Case re-designed
220V circuit isolated at the top of the case

Hi @daniboun,

Nice build. I recently had a chat with 3e-audio regarding PSU requirements. They have confirmed that SMPS would be better choice for their amps. Did you get a chance to compare the performance with SMPS and LPSU both?

When I place my ears close to the tweeter, I'm getting some hissing noise with L15D-PS. I've tested the same by removing all input connections to the board. Are you getting any such hissing noise with the 3e audio modules?

Hello,
My version of self-oscillating UCD amp, based on Philips / Putzeys patent.
Works from +-20V up to +-40V with switching freq. at ca 310Khz.
Idle consumption is ca 1W at 35V supply,
and no audible noise at the speaker :)
I will use 4 of them in my 2 nearfield monitors controlled by an ADAU1701
driving a 80W woofer and 15W tweeter, so no further cooling is requiered.
The first prototype, and the final version: ;)
Where did you get these inductors from?

I plan to add 2x 300a1 for additional channels. I played the amplifier on the magnepans for the test. They take large currents.. and after 2 hours of playing it did not exceed the temperature as I mentioned above.
I screwed the icepower board directly to the housing sheet ..

Hi

Nice work.

Have you noticed a sound difference between the 300A1 and the 1200AS2 since these are not using the same technology if I can say it that way (1200AS2 is IceEdge)

Thanks
Eric

Korg NuTube preamp board left channel issues

Here is my Class D integrated amp. It has a Pass Labs B1 Korg NuTube preamp with a ClassDaudio CDA-120 power amplifier good for 60W+60W at 8 ohms. The Korg is the 12AX7 for the 21st century as a VFD that acts a dual triode. Still working on issues (hum, channel level mismatches, etc.) but hope to provide listening comments soon.

Very nice, like the nutube, yes the hum can be quite a persistent problem, good luck on fault finding, I post a pdf on most common noise issues, it helped me a ton.
