TPA3116 Vacu-Phonic

This one's centered around the TPA3116 Class-D module powered by a 19vdc laptop brick - Twisting the small center vacuum tube controls volume - The larger KT66 tubes are for show, of course (a recycling move since all are failed) - Four LEDs are attached to the base of each, and a controller enables several varying flashing sequences (or else on w/o flash). The short copper pipe stubs surrounding the "chassis" add to the light emitting effect as well. Fun to watch and even nicer to hear - The TPA3116 is one impressive little amplifier... Ya gotta just love Class D (I also use a few Tripath and Hypex oriented designs, one being an actual tube hybrid).

Finally finished building my three-enclosure hypex setup.

Case is custom made (fancied making my own "logo" :) ) and can accommodate 3x UCD180s, UcD400 or two nCore400. The idea is that I don't have to make any more holes.

It took some time in the planning, but very happy with the results.

Insides of the three-channel version:

Using Hypex's own SMPS1200 is great. The only challenge was splitting the power feed to three sets for each module. At first, I just had a connection box, but it was rather untidy and as space is rather tight, it was never going to look good.

I contacted JST (who make the connector), and they sent me free a sample of their cimping terminals used in that power connector so I was able to tidy it up somewhat. Now it looks neat and clean :)

The three-UcD400 model does get a little warm, but still perfectly "holdable" after hours of listening. The nCore version is obviously a lot cooler.

Sure TDA7498 100WPC @ 6 Ohms Board connected to a 36VDC Regulated Power Supply, all inside a Hammond 12" x 10" x 3" enclosure. Hookup wire is 20AWG 300V that has been doubled up for some applications (ie. 120VAC and IC). PS has been mounted on 3/8" tall nylon spacers and board using pinball machine boards feet. A 2.2K Ohms resistor to power the 3V LED from the 36VDC output of the PS. Lighted Mini Rocker Switch, RCA and Speaker connectors from Parts-Express. Great sounding amp!

Shown without the top cover, also from Hammond.
