I have a question: I want to build a mono poweramp with the Hypex UCD700 amd SMPS1200A700 modules.
How close can I mount them together in the housing and does the orientation relative to each other (e.g. side by side or perpendicular) matter?

I think you will find that the orientation of the amp and power supply is not critical. What is more important is the location of the preamp/input stage components as compared to the amp and PS modules as it pertains to noise pickup. These off the shelf amps and power supplies have gotten much better over the years and are very forgiving assuming you have a good common ground connection, and keep your wiring neat and as short
as possible.
