Sigma Delta vs PWM

I'm designing a class D amplfier, particularly 100W BTL. I can't seem to find a definitive answer on which modulation technique is better for THD+N or efficiency.

Can anyone tell me in which conditions you would do one or the other?

It depends really on details of design. It cannot be generalized. But for your 100W amp, considering complexity vs quality, I suggest UcD topology.

I understand that but I can't even find a write up with comparable explanations. Complexity is actually good in my case I'm designing for a final year project. I need to use some form of PWM/PDM.

Apologies if this comes across as being a bit harsh but if you are going to fall at the first hurdle because Google will not spit out someone else's research project pdf dealing with the relative merits of PWM vs PDM then complexity is not good in your case.

I'll guess and say that this is a final year undergraduate project.

You have been asked to build a class D amplifier, BTL, using PWM or PDM. You do not need to care about their relative merits you just have to pick one, build it and demonstrate that you understand why it works.

Look up IRS2092, the datasheet and app notes are very good.
