2 Questions regarding TPA3116D2

Hi


The first thing I am curious about is:
What does the "D2" in the end of TPA3116D2 mean?
Was there ever a TPA3116 without the D2 in the end?
Or other suffixes in addition to D2?


The second:
On ebay, you can find several modules of TPA3116D2,
and it seems that not only a Stereo module exists, but also a Mono one.
The Mono one is really popular..

Why?

I assume it's not because some people like to listen to musc with 1 speaker,
so more likely they are buying 2x the Mono module?
If yes, why is that more preferable than 1x Stereo module?

Q1 - D2: I'm in the boat with you.....

Q2 - Mono boards are nice for powered speakers and subwoofers.

No idea why they called it 'D2'.

The mono option doubles the power by allowing 2 ohm loads so you can do 100 Watts from an amp the size of a postage stamp.

Otherwise you're limited to 50 Watts x 2 into 4 ohm loads.
