Hi!

I've replaced the ne5532 op amps in the FX502SPRO with two opa2604, But after reading trough the topic, I'm not so sure if its as easy as just pop in, and out.

Is it safe to replace the two ne5532 with Opa2604?

If you put them in with the right orientation, which is no easy task, as they fit right and wrong, the worst thing that can happen, you will not hear any difference. Eelectrically they work in the same spot / conditions.

Chances are good you will hear something, because most China ampīs have fake NE5532 for a obvious reason: It is an expensive, high quality OP-amp.

So you might hear the difference of some NE5532 labeled 2 Cent OP amp to your expensive OP amp. Well, only if it is no fake opa2604, like the ones from eBay.
In that case (eBay) you might hear no difference...

Confusing, isnīt it?

I've already swapped them, I'm more worried about the instability mentioned here

than orientation. The Opa2604 is from a local store. I've been promised it is real. And there is an audible difference.

The ne5532 came with the unit is quite harsh, overly bright. The Opa2604 takes that edge away, sounds warmer and more musical.

Just like I experienced, changing fake NE5532 for a real one...
Great to hear you improved!
Instability should be a real design fault.

Hello,

Today I recieved my FX502PRO. As expected, it sounded far too bright as standard, with a recessed and somwhat muddy midrange. I bought some LME49720NA op-amps from a reputable source and quickly replaced the "NE5532" op-amps. The replacement was very easy using tweezers to pull the old op-amps out and slot the new ones in. The amp now sounds much better! Much less sibilant and the midrange has been brought forward. I think it's still a tad bright at times, but it is certainly far better than standard.

Here is what mine looks like - V5 board:

I did notice it seems to get warmer now with the op-amps changed. Anything to worry about?

Hi PAv

i would say no. if the sound is better/ you like more you push the volume more louder so more power is going to your speakers ...so donīt worry....enjoy
