I'm building my first tpa3116 amp.
I figured I need a speaker protection circuit, so in a whim I bought this on eBay:

UPC1237 DC12-24V / AC10-18V Speaker Loudspeaker Protection Board 10A Relay | eBay

It hasn't arrived yet, and now I'm wondering if it's actually necessary.. (I like to keep things as simple as possible, so if it's not necessary I'd rather not use it).

So - do I need it?
And if I do, is the one I ordered any good, and how should it be connected?
It says ac and DC input, yet afaict I only see DC input on the board?

The speaker protection you bought is probably for single ended speaker feeds.

The TPA3116 is a BTL (Bridge Tied Load) and will not work with it.

The TPA3116 has DC protection built in to the chip. Check out the data sheet for this chip.

Integrated Self-Protection Circuits Including
Over-Voltage, Under-Voltage, Over-
Temperature, DC-Detect, and Short Circuit
with Error Reporting

I have run a TPA3116 on my computer speakers since before this thread ( TPA3116D2 Amp ) was started.

Have fun.
