TPA3255 - all about DIY, Discussion, Design etc

I replaced the JRC4580 with MC33272 opamps. It was very fiddly, I had to make a tiny poker to push the pins over as I desoldered them. I tinned the feet of the new opamps with the tiniest amount of solder I could and then carefully soldered them into place. I did say I would do just one and then do a comparison but it was so fiddly I just wanted to get it done (sorry). I have only had a low level listen so far. I have been listening to Paul Simons Shining Like A National Guitar quite a bit over the last few days so I listened to this first. It is definitely a little more detailed, I noticed a few little details that I had not before and the cymbals are clearer. It might sound warmer but I would like to listen with more volume. It still sounds very clean/dark with no background noise. I thought it sounded amazing before changing the opamps and the only reason I did was because I could only find bad things written about the JRC4580’s. Thanks drMordor.
I changed two of mine RC4580 on my 3e four channel to OPA1656 and prefer the RC4580.
OPA1656 sounds to harsh for me and RC4580 gives 2db more bas which suits my speakers better.
So dont blame RC4580 as ****.

TPA 3255 has got my attention. Just looking for best imiplementation like many here I'm sure....

I haven't seen any reviews on this finished AMP... No balanced input is the only thing I'd like to see instead of the RCA.

Kind of pricey. What do you guys think?

The TPA3255 module used therein is this:

I believe daniboun used a few of these, and was not too impressed

For the price, I will avoid it. See my Zero Zone TPA3255 review.
Get a top end TPA3251/55 with PFFB and audio grade caps by DrMordor or XRK Audio instead. This is far away better )

Do you have a link to your review?

The amplifier I posted a link to has many features besides the TPA 3255.

Looks like many nice features for the money. I priced out the components and as built seems like a good value vs. building.

I'd like to build one but buying a finished high end TPA 3255 based amplifer seems like a great option too.

ElliJ the big advantage of using a balanced source device with a TPA325x amp is that you can bypass the opamps. The difference is distinct, and not in the way you might imagine - the presentation is more delicate, but with more detail.

The Focusrite Scarlett seems like a bargain priced entry point to balanced DAC's, but for just a little more - US$200 - there are two highly regarded balanced DAC's; the Soncoz LA-QXD1 and the Schiit Modius. Both of these have much better measurements on Audiosciencereview than the Focusrite.

I had a look at the two DACs that were suggested, I will go with the Scarlett as it has a volume knob and it is cheaper. I will have a go at bypassing my opamps, I will desolder the pin 8‘s and then run a wires under the board from the input connectors and the + of buffer caps. I could do it with less connections but this way I can use input connectors and disturb less components on the board.

Tricky

I didn’t know the buffer caps were surface mounts so I changed my plan. Excuse my soldering but the joints feel solid. It was a real dick to solder! I lifted the opamp pin 8. I did it this way so I could reverse everything. I just need to wait for my dac now, later today hopefully. Please don’t copy me as I am winging it and any criticism is welcome. Listening to my TPA3251 while I wait. 🤡
