TPA3116D2 Amp

Is it a recent purchase? price? ebay/ali links please...

Received last week from eBay.

Official Version Finished TPA3116D2 50Wx2 Stereo Digital Power Amplifier Board 664072567238 | eBay

I prefer this module of the TPA3116D2 to the other 2 I have with pots (hissy). This and the blue/black module have more body, better balanced and digs deeper.... just sounds better and with a quiet background.

These are the 2 with pots and the first is not as well built, doesn't have Nichicon caps as in the pic, both caps are different and the pot switch is iffy. The second one is better built but no better in sound IMO.

There are tons out there but it's a lottery on which one to pick that's why this thread is valuable.

I changed coils from 33uH to 10uH. Board is red dual TPA3116. The funny thing is, that the LC filter use 680nF and 33uH. But 680nF ist recommended with 10uH coils for 4Ohm.

Why almost all dual TPA3116 board have 33uH coils?

Another question. Why suddenly the ampcoils gots very hot. Nothing changed... only pulg unplug the audio signal for looking right and left working both the same.

For the output filter, and when the manufacturer is not clear on the preferences, I rely on NXP/Philips as guidance: 10uH/1.5uF for 4 Ohm, 15uH/1uF for 6 Ohm and 22uH/680nF for 8 Ohm.

These values are not an absolute truth and 33uH can be used (changes the filter damping somewhat) PROVIDED that the 33uH chokes can handle the current. 33uH lowers the filter cut-off frequency somewhat and reduces the residual of the carrier frequency. Unfortunately, many double TPA3116 designs for low impedance speakers use rather small chokes that may saturate with the increased load current.

Hot filter chokes - does the amplifier still work?

This is from TPA3116 datasheet. 10uH and 680nF.

Yes amps still work normal. Only chokes got hot.

I can't find my Flir at the moment for taking pictures

If you let your amplifier operate with the input signal turned fully down (no music), the chokes should not be hot. If the chokes become hot when you play (loud) music, it indicates that the chokes cannot handle the load current (saturation effects) and both the chokes and the amplifier chip will become hot.
I recall that you use rather low impedance speakers with high current levels.

I've replaced my Breeze Audio TPA3116 with a FX-Audio FX502S PRO (TPA3250)FX Audio FX502S PRO Audio Digital High Power Amplifier HIFI 2.0 Home Mini Professional Amp TPA3250 NE5532 70W *2 No Power Supply-in Amplifier from Consumer Electronics on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

I've replaced the NE5532 chips with LM4562NA/NOPB and I'm using a Mean Well 709-LRS150-24 (both are from Mouser).

FX-Audio FX502S PRO is twice as expensive as the Breeze Audio, but I think it sounds better. I miss the midrange boost of the Breeze Audio though, because it make guitars to sound in front.

What would be a better inexpensive stereo amp today?

Hi

My personal impression of the TPA3116 dual chip what i have is that the opamps are fake! -change to 4562 without filter changing make the tpa3116 playing "mid" orientated without deepness. lm49720 is more neutral because the 4562 sounds "powerful"...not always fine (outputfilter)
i read about TPA3116 --> set down the gain to 26 or better 20dB !

I bought the dual TPA3116 and the single TPA3116 and much more^^ But best are this. I also bought a cheap dual TPA3116 with false outpute chokes. Both are good. The dual TPA3116 existe in a enhanced WIMA version. I put both links.

Many thanks

Can this be bridged, it is currently 2 x 100 wats, can it be bridged to 1 x 200 watts.

Thanks

Check the data sheet. The TPA3116 is already a bridge amp. What you CAN do though I think it's not all that practical, is parallel 2 channels in one chip to get down to 2 ohms which takes it to 100 Watts from a 24 Volt supply. My comment about not practical is 2 ohm loads aren't all that common - or are they?

I currently run a 6 channel TPA3116 amp which claims 50 Watts x 4 plus 100 Watts x 2 (paralleled amps). I run it 8 ohms on a 19 volt 9.5 Amp laptop supply so it does 20 Watts per channel x 5 plus a Polk powered sub.

The preamp just went online. It uses 3 CS3310 gain control chips, 3 NJW1119A tone control chips, 3 OPA2134 opamps for buffers, a summer and a 2 pole 80Hz LPF for the sub when in stereo only. The 4 layer board was my first try with KiCad and JLCPCB.

2 4 character alpha LED displays show what status is and all tied together with an Arduino UNO. Still a few software tweaks but 99+% where I want it.

I'm very happy with the TPA3116 amps.

Thanks!
I really like this board, the tpa3116 has a good reputation and the layout has a minimum number of components to get in the way of the signal.

Unfortunatly the power rating is 100watts x 2 peak, 50 watts rms x2 which is probably too low for me. Can you explain the paralleling two channels into one chip that you mntioned, how can that be done.
