High Power Chip-based Amplifier?

Tried some basic searching on the forum but did not get to any satisfactory result.

My question is: Is it easily possible to build a chip-based amplifier able to deliver say 600W peak / 300 W average into 8 Ohm load?

Look into the LM4702, it should be possible but not as easy to use as a chip amp. With up to +/-100V rails (A version, not out yet) there is great potential for power. +/-75V, the B or C version, can't remember, should get you pretty close to 300W into 8 ohms. Not a ton of info about this part out there but check out the datasheet at National's website.

use LM3886 Times 6 at 40VDC+/- rails in a bridged parallel configuration will give you about 300 watts into an 8 ohm load.
The LM4870 is not a good idea becuase of its reduced dissipation, and dissipation is of major concern with a BPA design.
