One of my first Amps

Inspired by Flappy's recent "oldie" post. Here's one of my first amp projects built in the early 70's. It's a mono integrated 18 watt amp based on the Signetics NE540L driver IC. The amp circuit came from a Popular Electronics magazine article from May 1971. Technically, it's not a pure Chip Amp since the 540 drives the two discrete bipolar transistors seen on the back. The pre-amp is a three transistor circuit that came from a book of projects. I had to buy a few of the parts but most were scrounged from junk TV chassis and the like, which explains all the odd sizes.

I made the case and brass knobs in metal shop at school.

Didn't even know this was still around until I was cleaning out my dad's basement one day. This is the project that started it all and led to a life long career in electronics. Not only that, the thing still works. Thanks for looking. Anyone else got one?

Here is my creation! I built my active 2-way stereo 7 or 8 years ago using linuxguru's version of MyRef PCBs. Recently I moved the whole setup to a new case and better wiring. Here are the pictures!

Thanks to linuxguru!

Compact build using 2x24 SMPS in series with some extra filtering and 2x4700uF reservoirs. Couldn't wait for a bluetooth module, I think I had left enough room in there. LM3886 based on 00940 design.
