Although I haven't built any using them, I'm sure you could probably use one. It would elminate the mains part of building a GC. However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing it due to the lack of power that they would be able to deliver, unless it's for a more portable setup (such as the one in your post).
my gf's gainclone is based on a pair of wallwarts..
it's an lm1876, the power supply is a nice stable +/- 14 to 14.5v current is rated 1.67A it seems to have plenty of power for computer speakers and sounds great.. the wallwarts are rated 12vdc @ 1.67A but during testing I was getting 1.75 into a resistive load without dropping below 13.5v just wired them up in series to give a +/- supply.. and at 6.99(canadian) each their a bargain.. and local so no shipping
