Default How amplifier thermal shutdown sounds like?

Yesterday i tested a fake tda2050 ic into heavy load(4ohm) and with absolute maximum supply voltage(+/-25vDC). During bass transients it mutes itself for 1sec or so(repeatedly). I never thought that this counterfeit IC has such a good thermal protection circuitry inside! wow!

Edit:-maybe it was SOA protection circuitry, i don't know.

Probably SOA protection. A thermal protection circuit would likely take longer to disengage.

Perhaps this is a fake TDA2030

No chance! For tda2030 absolute maximum supply voltage is +/-22vDC. Maybe faulty 2050 rejected by UTC.

What are you using as a PSU? Anything with an over curent protection?

Nothing special, 180va 36v CT transfrmr with 6x 3300uf capacitors, three per rail.

Hi

a 36CT transformer delivers 18AC per rail... so after rectifier you get 18*1,45 = 26VDC. that its too much for the 2030 or 2040 chips!!

dont look at the maximum ratings in the datasheet...these are possible without signal to the amp.

you have to look at the operating voltage.
