There is always Carlos' dual LM338 regulator circuit.

LM338 can handle up to 5A but you would need a sizeable heatsink.
At 5A you would be dissipating 50w at the regs.

I've used the circuit successfully to power 2x LM1875 albeit nowhere near that amount of current.

You do not really have sufficient drop-voltage for a cap multiplier that has real filter effect. You can put "voltage dropper" circuits between the outputs from the rectifier bridge and the power rail decoupling capacitors. You could also just use drop-diodes connected in series but the "voltage dropper" circuit is more compact and easier to cool in a controlled manner.
Use Darlington power transistors rated for some 10A, in a TO-220 housing, and ordinary 2V7 zener diodes.

Thanks FF and rabbitz!

Sound advise as always. Can't find a recommendation for the smps but going on Rabbitz ≈chart, I'll probably go for 5A since it's rated at 300w.

Started reading the circuit protection article at ESP now. Really good source of educational material!
