H/K AVR 3600 distorted sound

I have a Harman kardon AVR 3600 was working great and I think my kids pull my rear surround wire out of the speaker, unbeknownst to me (I turned on the avr )and now with the wire fixed still have distorted sound. at first it would clear up after a few minuets now its all the time all function work just distorted sound. I'm thinking a shorted channel but not shure how to check or where to start.
