I just love the simplicity of the wiring as it's quite unusual in many of today's diy builds

A question: Do the SMPS have their own fuses so you don't need a 'mains input' chassis fuse?

Yep. The SMPS-86 has a fuse holder on the board. In its default build, there's no mains wiring needed by the builder. Power inlet, power switch, fuse holder, etc. are all on the board.

More seriously: Yeah. I actually do manage to get 8-9 hours on most nights. That still leaves 15-16 hours to spend on DIY Audio.
