Capacitors come in many different body types , Some are Box caps , some look like Chicklets like the ones you posted , some are tubular ect , as long and the Value of the cap and Voltage of the cap is correct then the cap should be suitable for your project , space permiting .....

Cheers

The 0,1 µF capacitors are decoupling caps for the power supply pins, Zobel caps for the output, and snubber caps for the power supply. They are small. The big rectangular caps you often see are probably the DC blocking caps that should be at the input, but are not usually part of the kit.

With post #8 in mind I had a look at that CarlosFM PSU and asked myself why a 1 Ohm resistor in an RC circuit with a corner frequency of 1,6 MHz should need a 2 W rating. And why would a PSU need an RC circuit in the first place?

If you left the 100n caps out, would you still need the RC circuit?
If you used 100n ceramic caps right next to the recitifier (as is common practice) instead of film caps on the other side of the PCB (which bears the risk that trace inductance and caps form a resonant circuit), would you still need the RC circuit?
