Weird amp problem

Ok....my amp in my car keeps cutting out. The protect light goes on and off. Everytime i play with it i fold the seats in the back down and once i do that it doesnt work at all. So the light only powers on when the seat is up. My amp is screwed into the back of my seat. There are two metal pieces that are used to latch the seat up. I only get power when those are connected. Wtf is going on? lol

Where are you grounding your amplifier? It sounds like you have a power problem.

What is required for an amp to turn on and stay on.....

Make sure your ground wire is tight at the power terminal on your amp AND that it does connect to Bttery negative/chassis. It sounds like the ground is connected in a roundabout way through the seat latches.

Or that your ground return is open, and the seat is acting as an alternate ground. OTOH, you mentioned the protection tripping, is this turn on related, or are you shorting your speaker cables?

However, having the amp screwed into metal is NOT a good idea, it could be grounding itself through the screws being used to hold it down.
