Would it be ok to use a 494 and a 393?

Yes. In the future, order the TL594 to keep in stock. The LM293 has a wider temperature range but I've never had any problem using the 393.

These rarely fail. Are you replacing them for a good reason?

On this drawing pin 3 is REM and pin 4 is Remote. What tis the difference in this instance?

Pin 4 is energized on the main board with remote voltage applied with the driver board out of circuit, pin 3 is not. Should pin 3 have voltage also, or would this be voltage controlled by the driver board?

4 is the remote in. 3 is the switched voltage for the DC offset protection, in this diagram.

The 494 is not outputting.

Pin 1 is hi and pin 15 is hi.

Is terminal 1 or 7 of the 393 going high? Which one?

If 7, check the equivalent of Q226 on the diagram.

Update:

393 - pin 1 is high, pin 7 is not

494 - pin 1 and 15 hi

I had it backwards, pin 1 high, check Q226.


494-1 is being driven high by the 393. 494-15 is high because it's tied directly to the 5v regulator.

Did you find Q226.

Does your board closely match the diagram I posted?

Q226 checks ok out of circuit.

Is D11 on the PS driver board shorted? It is labled D34 on this PS driver board but it checks ok in circuit.

Is Q226 still out of the circuit?

Are the solder pads for it cleaned up (no shorts between pads)?
