How do you define 'better'? That's always the question. There's rarely anything that better in every way than a similar device, especially when cost and complexity are factored into the equation.

The Rockford differs in that it only supplies the required rail voltage and it does it in sync with the power output stage. I can't find the white paper on the BD class right now but it exists somewhere on the net. One advantage is that it's supposedly easier to filter the carrier from the audio. That's probably one reason that their output filter inductors are so much smaller than most other amps.
 
The size of the woofer isn't an issue.

For high power applications, it's not practical to use most types of linear amplifiers (non-switching amplifiers, has nothing to do with the brand name Linear Power) because there is too much inefficiency and too much heat produced. Switching amplifiers (class D, BD, T...) are much more efficient and more practical for high power applications.
