Thorens td 126, damaged strobe unit?

My td 126 unfortunately fell half a meter down to the (tile) floor, and when starting it up again, smoke came out in the middle front of the player. I removed the outer and inner platter an discovered that the strobe lens was broken.
I guess the smoke indicates that the strobe unit or -lamp is broken, but that the mechanics is still OK.
Anyone in here who has an idea about what else might have caused the smoke, and how to go about to fix the damage?
