Some possible cures:
Your line output volume settings on the PC are disabled or the slider in the control panel is down.
You connected to the wrong output jack of your soundcard.
Make sure you connect to the line in input of the Sony and your input selector is set to line in.
Your cable is bad.

Integrated soundcard are often disabled in the BIOS of the PC. You should make sure it is enabled first.
DISCLAIMER: Don't play with values in your bios if you don't know what they do. It might cause your PC not to boot afterward, or cause instability with the computer. So I suggest to get the manual for your motherboard first.
Once it is enabled, do as Hugo suggested.
If it still does not work, plug some cheap speakers to your speaker out and make sure some sound comes out of them. If so, you just need to unmute/enable the line out mode. If not, you'll need to consult a PC repair specialist.
