This could be a stepping volume controller, using a signal relay to initiate a mute function.
Or it could be a relay selected stepping vol pot, but very unlikely in such a small case.
Or it could be codswallop since there is no specification against which to compare the product to what is (not) promised.

Well, the title says it all. It's a potentiometer with six feet.
No, seriously, the description seems to imply somehow that it might be an R2R stepped attenuator. Maybe it's controlled via the small pot visible in the photos. But I wonder how that would fit into such small case. I guess there is only one way to find out...

The "thousand" perhaps was meant to be thousandth in resistor precision.
The pot in the front could be a DC divider that tells the MCU about its angular position, so as for the latter to determine a relay combination for the stepping resistor network.
It appears to be a challenge for the given space, but with a flexible PCB it's probably doable.
