Hi Carl,

LM4562 obsolescence is new to me, so I checked TI web site to see for myself. It lists LM4562 as still being active. Wonder where you got your information from?
I found my information at,
LM4562 | Audio Operational Amplifier | Operational Amplifier (Op Amp) | Description & parametrics

LME49720 is also listed as active. I do see that they do not mention pdip-8 in the pin/pkg lists but the data sheets still show dip-8 as being available.

Usually if they intend to drop a part they at least say not recommended for new design. TI is better than most when it comes to obs parts. Some give you almost no notice at all, like Maxim etc.

Now that i look further, I see all the TI discontinuance/EOL notices of many National parts. It is a shame, but we all know that these BIG companies do not rely on the DIY community as their source of income. DIP packages are a thing of the past, so I suggest to not design with them any more.

Right now, in addition to the basic board with its controls, there would be the need to add an on/off (if required), a selector control, a (possible) selector-indicator. All of this on the RHS, where a PS might be fitted.

It would seem to fit the bill, is available, proven, and is designed by the guy that designed the preamp. So we can blame him if it all goes bang :-)
Hello George, No reason not to if that is what you want to do.

However note the power supply as published in the Elektor article does not fit in a 1U chassis. I've got a version of the power supply recommended by Doug Self as published on page 530 of his 'Small Signal Audio Design' book in the works that does fit a 1U chassis. The PCBs for it are in fab as I write this. I will make those available once I've proven the layout. They will cost $10 apiece and be available in a couple of weeks.

Hi Carl,

You just saved me $20 for the pcb alone from Elektor. I am all for a slim design. Put me down for a PS pcb and also for any other boards (like the input board) too, if you are taking orders. Right now I have to get back to installing a bathroom :-(
